I sewed an ebook case from felt to the birthday of my only one :)
He got another to his previous birthday, but it started to fall apart because he kept it near to a velcro :/ So I decided to make a new one for him, which would protect his ebook reader more that the previous and also looks better :)
As he likes red, I choose this color as a base for the case. The matching color found for the inner layer was grey.
As his nickname is Squirrel, the pattern was given. So was the size. I only had to figure out the case's shape.. He usually reads on train or on bus and he puts the case into his pocket so the whole thing needed to be easily bended. The buttons weren't options as he'd rip them down even before getting on the bus..
So I needed to keep it simple.
Here you can see the first plans for he pattern. The little heart shaped hole on the inner layer was made somewhere else, where only He can see ;)
By the time I made this pic, the layers were already stitched together and also cut in shape. The squirell was the "funnyiest" part... ^^' I made it with a scalpel, but everything got fluffy... so finished with a scissors... But everything is fine, it looks just fine :D
The stitches aren't on the inside part because the felt was too thick to turn it inside out and well, I didn't even had that much material to make bigger "margins". And I also like the contrast the black tread make both with the gray and the red :P
Finally in His hand :)
This little piece of love costed me 3-4 hours :) But worth every moment of it ^^
Whenever I can, I give my loved ones something handmade. Not only because it usually costs less money, but because it always costs more time :) Giving somebody our time is the most we can to show that we are interested in them. While making something as a gift, I usually have a lot time to think. What would she/he like to have? Would that be useful? How can I make it to fit her/his style?
I also feel a lot smarter after planned something and made it. This tiny ebook case was a great project :D I've been thinking more about the process than actually doing it.. :'D
And not the last advantage is that you can see them happily using something you made :)
In conclusion, all I can say is that you should all make gift by yourself, because it's awesome! :D
